A playful, intuitive, sound-led method of songwriting

Step One:

  1. Pick two chords that sound good together (e.g. G and Em).
  2. Add strumming (try picking one note at a time).

Step Two:

Listen to the rhythm and mumble along to it.

Step Three:

  1. Add words. Don’t overthink it. Doesn’t have to make any sense.
  2. Now make it make sense.

Step Four:

Write the chorus.

Ways to make it exciting:

  1. Play louder.
  2. Add an extra chord (or two).
  3. Sing in a higher pitch.
